Long trips by car or plane often make you tired even though you don’t have to work very much and sit still.

According to ScienceABC, surely we have many times wondered why people feel tired when traveling long distances on certain vehicles such as cars and airplanes? We sit there, do nothing, right?

Note: The feeling of fatigue in cars, buses or even planes is entirely subjective, so it is not always the case that everyone feels tired. Maybe for some people, moving on the bus for a long distance is not exhausting. This article only presents a few factors that contribute significantly to making people feel tired after a long journey on cars, buses or commercial airplanes.

Factors affecting the comfort of passengers on the road

When you go on the road, your car/bus will take countless times. Also, old cars will constantly rock you from side to side.

In addition to continuous curves, swaying and speed changes, there are several other factors, such as the condition of the car, the passenger seat and even the quality of the road. All of these factors affect the comfort of passengers.

On the other hand, going to the train will be less tiring. The reason is simple: it does not accelerate/decelerate and change direction as often as cars on the road. Therefore, the trains often bring less tired feeling.

Factors causing fatigue during a flight

Long flights also often create a sense of fatigue. One might think that an aircraft does not usually increase or decrease speed like a car, so traveling by this vehicle will be less tiring?

However, other factors make you tired of going through a flight.

First, your body must adjust to adapt to the elevation change. Although the pressure in the cabin makes it easier for your body to adjust to height, it is still far from ordinary when you sit in a chair in the bedroom.

Next is the phenomenon of dehydration. To maintain the pressure in the cabin, the airlines have to regulate the air inside. This involves changing the composition of the air in the cabin. This is why the cabin air is 15% drier than ground air, and this causes dehydration for passengers. It is the main reason why airplane food tastes so bad.

Moreover, all the noise, trembling, rolling, turbulence and other vibrations you experience during a flight are not natural movements that your body performs daily. The body is continually trying to stabilize itself, which causes fatigue, which is why you feel tired after a long flight (although you feel like you’re just sitting in a chair and not doing anything).

Psychological factors

One cannot underestimate the psychological aspect of moving over long distances. On a flight, you may have a little awareness of yourself and your surroundings. There are strangers around you, and you unconsciously try to stay away from their personal space. In other words, you are consistently being warned or worried, and this is not a naturally formed mood. This adds mental fatigue when traveling for hours on a flight.

That’s why business class on flights is the favorite. You have more space on it, comfortably stretch your legs, even sleep, and this makes you more comfortable. The business compartment is intended to give you a home-like space, to provide you with a good rest and to be ready to work as soon as you step off the plane.

Fatigue is an entirely subjective and different feeling in each person. But above are some factors that can affect people, making them feel tired when going on a long journey.
